Goal Lines

Goal Lines is a type of bet commonly used in Winfair24, particularly in football matches. It is a variation of the traditional Asian Handicap where the betting exchange sets a handicap or line for a particular match, and you bet on whether the total number of goals scored in the match will be over or under that line. The primary goal is to eliminate the possibility of a draw, providing two possible outcomes for the bet.

How Goal Lines Works

The Goal Line represents the number of goals expected to be scored in a particular match. To avoid the possibility of a push, which means the bet is neither a win nor a loss, the exchange uses decimal numbers like 2.5 or 3.0 for the goal line.

If the goal line is a whole number like 2 or 3, and the match ends with  that exact number of goals (e.g 2-0, 3-0), the bet can result in a push, meaning you get your money back and neither win nor lose.

By using decimal numbers like 2.5 or 3.0 there is no possibility of an exact match to the goal line. For example, if the goal line is set at 2.5, it is impossible for the match to end with exactly 2.5 goals. This eliminates the chance of a push, ensuring there is always a clear win or loss for the bet.

Using decimal numbers for the goal line helps avoid ambiguity and ensures that there is a definitive outcome for your bet.

Goal Line Bet Example on Winfair24

Let’s use the Premiere League football match between Crystal Palace and Tottenham with a back and a lay bet at a Goal Line of Over 0.5.

Back Bet (Betting on Over 0.5 Goals)

In  this example, you believe that there will be at least one goal scored in the match. So, you want to place a back bet on Over 0.5 Goals.

Login to your Winfair24 account and go to the Exchange section.

On the left column of events, find on Soccer the Premier League football match between Crystal Palace and Tottenham and select the Goal Lines market.

Since you want to back the over 0.5 goals selection you will click on the blue box across the corresponding row and your betslip will immediately open.

The available best odds offered for backing your selection are 1.06. Let’s say you don’t agree and you want to add some value to your bet and set it at 1.30 for a 100 EUR stake. Modify the odds at 1.30 by either typing it in the odds field or by using the upper bow and place your 100 EUR stake right next to the odds field. Click the Submit button to confirm your bet and wait for another Winfair24 bettor to lay it.

If at least one goal is scored in the match, you will win your back bet making a 30EUR profit.

If the final score ends in 1-0, 2-1, 1-1 etc, you win.

Lay Bet (Betting Against Over 0.5 Goals)

Now let’s say that in the same football match you believe that there will not be any goals scored. So, you want to place a lay bet against “Over 0.5 Goals”.

Follow the same steps as with the Back Bet, but this time you will click on the pink box across the Over 0.5 Goals row and your betslip will immediately open.

The best available odds offered are 1.07. Let’s say you agree with it and you decide to lay 100 EUR against Over 0.5 Goals.

If there is no goal scored and the match ends in 0-0, you will win your lay bet and you will receive 100 EUR minus the commission charged on your winning bets.

If at least one goal is scored in the match, you will lose your lay bet with a 7 EUR loss.

The key difference between a back and a lay bet is the perspective of the outcome. In your back bet, you are betting on something to happen – in this case, at least one goal being scored. In a lay bet, on the other hand, you are betting against something to happen – in this case, no goals being scored. The odds represent the potential profit and risk in both cases respectively.

Always remember that all betting exchanges and Winfair24 too charge you with a commission on winning bets, so it is essential to account for that when calculating your potential profits. In addition, the odds on betting exchanges change in real-time quickly based on market activity and events in the match, so you need to have quick reflexes, as you may not always get the exact odds you initially saw.

Goal Lines are a way to predict if there will be more or fewer goals in a football match. It’s like saying “will the teams score a lot of goals or just a few”? You can choose to either back a selection of Over or Under if you think will happen, or lay it if you think it will not happen. It is a straightforward way to enjoy football betting without worrying about who wins the match.
